A little prologue to this blog: I am not an avid hockey fan these days.......Oh, there once was a time like alot of Candian boys and girls....that I admired David Keon (he bore the No.14) that was his claim to fame, Lanny McDonald, Darryl Sittler, Tiger Williams and Eddy Shack to name a few....I have shared a 'moment with at least 3 out of 5 and actually, come to think of it I have a 'very' recent autograph from 'Darryl' saying only 'Keep Smiling'....the good 'old' days....Where is that autograph? that will be worth much to me one day.....I did however catch the beginning of the Canadian womens hockey game and was happy to see they are as competative today as ever; Geraldine, I am sure is very proud......there you have your proloque, now here we go...I havn't felt much like writing these days but today I got the 'itch' and here's what came out;
What happened to 'All for One and One for All'.....I somehow thought the Olympics was about bringing the best of the world together in the 'moment' and respecting eachother in good sportsmanship...if 'not' for anything else.....what I saw this Olympics was people coming together in a 'moment' and then being seperated in the next by words or actions that diminished accomplishments, this may have always been how it was....maybe I am just more aware.
Here's the thing; what is accomplishment for any if within the next breath you pull away all celebration of the achievement?
This comes on the tail of an article I read regarding Canada's 'Crosby' and USA's 'Miller'; for those of us who do not follow the NHL...they both play for the Pittsburgh Penquins and were both at the Olympics under what I believe must have been very extrenuating circumstances considering they both play for the same NHL team and 'Crosby' scored the winning 'Gold' goal on 'Miller'. Got the scoop?......as everyone get's back into their normal NHL season 'Crosby' gets boo-ed by many in Pittsburgh and 'Miller' gets a standing O......I understand that 'Crosby' is a Canadian and that re-playing the winning goal must have felt like salt in the wound, as I know it would have for many Canadians had the coin tossed the other way.......but come on if you are truly a 'sportsman' that involves sportsmanship, "it's about the achievement of sport"..........sorry, I thought I had lost all of my niavate.
Both Crosby and Miller deserve praise and admiration, despite all odds they both made it to a place in history and both did their best so in my bypartisan thoughts..........
Congratulations to both Miller and Crosby for both achieving the opportunity to share in an 'Olympic' moment.
Namaste
